What's your posing niche?

niche (nich)  n., v. <niched, nich-ing>
                 
                  2.  a suitable place or position: to find
                       one's niche in the world.

A posing niche is therefore the pose that you do perfectly. Something that you've just got down, and never fails to impress. Throughout looking at sceneries on stardoll I have found that certain people just excel at a certain pose.

For example, .naima's niche is the body tilt. She was the first person I ever saw do it, and she has perfected it.

Melinda is probably the most talked about model on this blog, but that's just because she's so talented.

 

Looking at these sceneries it's impossible to deny that. 

As seen in these first 2 sceneries Melinda uses items as clothes. The cream top is actually layered chairs! It's a very good item to use for clothing because of it's shape, texture, and ability to shrink to a small size. It's no longer for sale, but you can easily find it by searching the starbazaar for chairs. I found one being sold for only 5sd!

New writer to the blog, Rockinellee also has a niche: Head tilts.

 I really love head tilts because they add so much character to a scenery.

 

Being stuck with your head always facing forward can get rather old, so this really keeps things interesting!

Elle has perfected the head tilt, and makes it look effortless!

This is Lauren-d's second feature on editorialized. She is currently in the final two of Pearl.Models, which is where these sceneries are from.

 

Her unique niche is elongation. I know you may not think that's a real form of posing, but I think it really adds interesting qualities to here sceneries.  

She uses clothes, and posing to elongate her body, making it look very elegant and unique!

This is the first editorialized feature for VianneX3!

Her niche is hair posing! Sounds kinda weird right? But if done right, it can be really stunning!

She takes hair posing beyond horse hair, and it really adds a nice touch to her sceneries. 

Sceneries from various clubs (Pearl.Models, ModelingWorld, RENTM, and juniormodels) and users personal sceneries .

Having a posing niche can be helpful because it makes you memorable! If you have a certain continuity in your sceneries people will be able to recognize you. Of course you don't want to do the same pose every time, but it's always good to have a back up pose. One that never lets you down (:

Posing: The Basics

It has come to my attention some people would really like to know the bottom line basics of posing. Well Fear not, I am here to make wishes come true.

So first and foremost you must know how poses are created. They are made by using multiple bodies strategically placed, to create a "pose". Once all the bodies have been laid out, there will be parts that you don't need, and those will be covered up. If you are a superstar the easiest way to cover things up is with "tiles". Now here is what I mean by that:

Tiles are simply "posters" that you make in the star bazaar that are all one color. As you see above they are 4 stardollars and for ss only.

So what do non ss do? They have to use more creative things, are are more limited on the colors they have. For more info on non ss posing please see my tab up above (:

Out of the box poses!

So lately I have seem people become very creative with their poses, and I thought I should share them with you!

One cool out of the box pose, is sitting on a chair:

One very unique (and amazing) pose that I've seen is tilting the body:

In stardoll modeling one of the biggest flaws is the lack of ability to do anything but face the "camera" face forward. What Melinda did in the scenery above is what I believe to be the beginning of a posing revolution! Thinking outside of the box, and never letting stardoll limits get in the way of creativity -Way to go Melinda!

This pose is so creative I love it!

This scenery is also very creative: incorporating another object into the pose adds a really unique effect!

Another out of the box pose is tilting the head:

Tilting the head can add a really creepy effect to a scenery, as it does here. But it can also just be impressive cause trust me a pose like that is not simple!

Sceney Feature: Sary.Babyfayce

So this is a scenery from MTM, in which the task was to create a scenery inspired by a black and white photo or film, and then turn it black and white! When I saw this scenery I was absolutely blown away!

 

It's just stunning! I can feel the motion, and it's just so mysterious! 

Now there are some technical errors: the elbow is too sharp, and I would have had the right foot be farther back to get the running feeling. But besides those minor detail I ADORE this scenery, and I think the black and white just makes it all the more better.

Complex pose tutorial: ss

It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these, did you miss me?

                       

Well here it goes!

Inspiration:

This is a particularly challenging pose because pretty much all the joints are bent. Take a look:

So here’s what I did for the arms. It gets a little messy, so just keep in mind what parts you’ll want to keep.

When I tried to do the legs I ran into a problem with the feet:

So I decided if you can’t beet ‘em, join them! Like this:

And then I did the next leg:

So now all I need to do is keep in mind what I’m keeping, and cover up the rest!

And once it’s covered up…

It doesn’t look too great now, but wait till the clothes are on. Clothing can really make a big difference. You can really add some short cuts to posing by adding the right clothing that covers up the place you can’t with tiles. So this is what is looks like once the clothes are on:

And this is what it looks like once I’ve added the background, and it’s all finished!

Scenery Feature: .Pease.

Well you most likely all know my weakness for underwater photography from my post about it previously. Infact I even have an underwater room now, if you visit my suite. So you can imagine how my jaw simply dropped  when I saw this scenery by .pease. aka Linnea:

So elegant and mysterious...and other-worldly. 

Now I'm just speechless (:

Well it's a new year, and that means new posts! Some new Ideas I have are to give some tips on how to changes your expression to go with the mood of your scenery, and maybe a segment of "spot what's wrong". The segment would show sceneries where maybe something's just a little bit off (arm too short ect) and you can guess what's wrong! It would help you to see what's wrong in your own sceneries while you're making them, so you can fix it before you save it (:  what do you think?
