Cinderella's little bird

Hello, It's been a while since I've updated you on my sewing, so I thought now we be a good time to do so! Since the last time I updated you I have only made one more piece of clothing, but I have bought more fabric!

Back in October I finished this dress:

I was my Halloween costume (: I was a 40's navy wife. I wore it to school and then trick or treated, and I haven't worn it since *sigh*. I hope to wear it in the summer. It's much more of a summer dress.

On a recent trip to the fabric store I bought fabric for 3 more items of clothing. The first is a skirt for my best friend.

Here's what the pattern looks like:

And here are the pieces and fabric (it's velvet):
The next thing is a crop top. Here's the pattern view form the back:

I'm in love with the fabric I found to make it with!

The embroidery is really pretty and I'm so excited to see how it will turn out! Here are all the pieces (it has a heart pocket!)

The last thing is a nice classy blouse:

I wanted to get fabric to make a velvet blazer, but I had already spent $40, so I guess that will just have to wait for another time (:

Finally I have news about my prom dress! About 5 months ago I showed you all 5 patterns that I was considering for my prom dress. After reading all your comments and looking at the poll results I have come to a decision. The pattern I am going to use is.....

But without the sash. This was not the poll winner. This came in second place, but was WAY behind the first place with got 50% of the votes. The first place winner was:

I agree with you all that this is a stunning design, but the pattern is really hard to find for sale! There are also too many variables. The picture that went with this drawing made the dress look kinda bad (see update below for image) so I'm not sure if my armature hands could make it well enough. So I stand by my decision to use the second place pattern (:

I hope to have lots of new updates for you all soon! Let me know what you think (:

UPDATE: I just found this picture of the dress I have chosen to make as my prom dress in real life:

It actually looks rally nice (: I'm going to make mine with chiffon though. What color should I make it?

Oh, and here is the pic of the Oscar de la Renta dress:

See what I mean about it not looking too hot...or maybe it's just the color that throws me off.

Its gorgeous! The polka-dot dress is a beautiful summer dress. May I ask what book you use? I assume you use a book of some sort to help measurements and such because one picture showed a book. lol :)

@Tinsley: No, I do not use a book. I only use the patterns I've bought. Do you mean a book to learn how to make my own patterns? Hm, I wish I had one of those.

Hi Lia,
I agree with the pattern you chose for your prom dress. It is much more flattering. I also think making it out of chiffon is a great idea, it will be difficult though. Oh, and I am not sure what color it should be, but it should definitly be pastel. -Lyia

You probably already have fabric, but hey, here's my two cents;
I believe any strong, dark colour would ruin the delicacy of this dress, especially if you make it in chiffon. Besides, pastel colours are everything this season. Go with the pastel colour that you like best and that goes best with your skin, because they can be hard to work. That's what I'd do. Oh, also; make me one in lilac? UK size 8, thanks ;D

I believe that the dress is a pastel for a reason so stick to very pale pastels Lavender would be the strongest you could use really.. Oh and avoid white it will look too much like a wedding dress.. Hope all this helps :)
